Honoring A Legacy

For more than four decades, James Hooper helped shape the Juneteenth Rodeo into a lasting cultural institution rooted in resilience, competition, and community pride. His passion for horses, discipline in the arena, and commitment to preserving tradition created more than an event — it created a legacy.

Today, that legacy continues through his family and through Calico Heritage Enrichment Inc., ensuring that the rodeo remains not only a celebration of heritage, but a platform for opportunity and generational impact.

Pat Hooper's dad, James Hooper, honored in a newsclipping.

“I've been gifted to be involved in rodeo all of my life, compliments of my father. I love the generational rodeo and honoring my father through the James Hooper Memorial Juneteenth Rodeo! Generations of Hoopers have been doing Rodeo a long time!”

- Pat Hooper, Son of James Hooper
